Hi All

I should be taking ownership of the phantom 40 on Thursday as long as the sea trial and inspection go ok

Now the thing is the phantom 40 is not the biggest boat around and the cabins are not huge so I need to work out how to mount a tv on the side of the wardrobe in the kids bedroom as there is NO way I am going to drill the side of the wardrobe and hang it on there so is there another way of fixing it to the side of the wardrobe without drilling the unit I cannot think of one but wondered if any of you clever lot new how to do it.

I have attached a photo of the cabin but its not the best

The only other thing is to mount it on the GRP towards the roof and put the kids pillows down the wardrobe end of the bed?????

thanks shawn

What about a flip down tv mounted in the ceiling panel at the foot end? Flip down brackets are widely available and you can trim to make it nice/flush dependant on your budget. Ceiling panels are better to cut drill as they are easily replaceable in the event of a mistake/tv no longer required.

I was thinking flip down too....but wherever you put it, will they be sitting up lying down or both.

You also have the choice of using an actuator à la JFMs method on Match 2

With the very flat panel led screen mounting plates, why would you not drill side of robe and fit it?

Also, as edit, nice boat. Health to enjoy! I have looked at these too and kids will prefer to look the right way with head resting back on upholstered board!

I understand that view, especially on your new boat. However, there will always be a screen there, and even if a mount was altered, any new panel would have old holes capped, and new bracket fitted. IMHO it would be a professional install and will work / allow choice of wiring and screens

+1. I can't get a picture here on anything other than the iPad.

If you have the right plan, (Three network offer all you can eat data), the the TV on demand route is getting very viable. I have my iphone set up as a wifi hot spot and the three of us are able to stream iplayer, sky go and the like with surprising sucsess, (better than the supposed 4mbs I am getting on my home land line). This negated the need for us to have a tv fitted in our guest cabins and spoil the look of the boat. Downsides to this solution are cell coverage and data cost when overseas so if television is super important then the streaming solution is not quite there yet, (have not found a marina hot spot with sufficient bandwidth as of yet). But its early days and if I were in the marine satellite tv sector I would be looking at diversifying right now.

I'm with lambohill on this. Drill the wardrobe side, flat mount a 29mm thick Samsung, and lose all the wires inside the wardrobe covered with a vinyl wrapped box or neat trunking or something. It will look way neater than an ugly bracket imho, especially as you would get to see the bracketry "edge on" as you walk inside the cabin. This is what I specced for the smallest cabins on Match 2, pic below. I realise the TV viewing angle isn't perfect for one of the beds but the Samsung works ok and to be honest no-one has ever turned these TVs on anyway in my boat. FWIW these TVs are Samsung 19 inch D4010 Series 4, 455w x 286h x 30d, chosen for their dimensions not technical spec.

There is no bracket at all Lambohill. TV is 30mm thick, and is attached to side of wardrobe by drilling right through the wardrobe side and bolting it on using the Vesa holes in the TV. So TV is squeezed up hard against the wardrobe side. Looks really neat. especially edge-on, where brackets look ugly. Factory did it in build, not me, but loads of boatbuilders have shifted to this method now that you can get nearly all size TVs in 30mm thick.

Looks good for me John - I trust both you and family are enjoying your first season with Match II and she has been behaving herself - KR Terry

Yes, understood JFM. I have done this with a plate circa 10mm but onto buildings. So you get say 40mm overall, still ok, but..
I had not thought of simply bolt through wardrobe to the VESA holes as you say. Even slimmer, very acceptable finish, something learnt.

Hi Terry
Thanks for asking - yes she is going well and I've had a fantastic season on her. 185 hours, 80 overnight names in guestbook, no breakdowns. Every weekend since June spent on board except 1. I'm 100% delighted with her and with the backup from Fairline and Essex Boatyards. Been to Corsica twice and all around Cote D'Azur. Had Jeremy Clarkson and crew on board and filmed Top Gear Christmas DVD which will be out late November (we had a chase boat and a 'copter, so should have some great footage, all shot in St Tropez). When I find time (from writing physics essays about stabilisers, erk!) I'll do a post of some cruising this summer. Until then, a few random pics are below, and very sorry Shawn for this thread drift :-) Best wishes Terry to you and B
