TV in the Med - on your TV using the internet.

Thanks Mat, I've ordered the 120Gb, hopefully it will be faster than my UK Three data sim and work out cheaper than the Movistar sim. When all of the family on board we seem to burn data at a fair old rate, mostly the kids on youtube and facebook. The PAYG Movistar sim can easily hit 20E per day with that kind of use. All of our phones are on Three and that works well for occasional use when out and about plus emails. Were you able to upload/email the required proof of ID?

Cheers
Mike

Yep. Just snap a pic of your DL and email it to them. Activated mine within 10mins.

My Spanish Vodafone sim arrived at Cala d'Or today, activated within 10 mins of sending scanned passport. Just did a speed test over a wireless connection on my macbook: ping 35 ms, Down 41.96 Mbps, Up 29.88 Mbps. Netflix playing HD without any buffering so far. Really pleased, thanks for the recommendation Mat

Think I will try one of these sim as well.

So it is e120 for the sim and month 1 and e75 for s top up.

Do you know how long you have to top up ? So if I have it active for may and then let it expire and then enable it in July is that ok ? Similarly after the winter break ?

It's E99 for the sim then E75 to keep it active. I think once it lapses, you're back to paying E99 to start again. I plan to pay it until October then rely on Three and daily Movistar sim for short trips during winter. Nice to not have to worry about everyone turning off app refresh and firmware downloads on their phone plus streaming Uk radio in the day and streaming the odd film without running out of data though.

They confirmed that it is E99 to buy and the E75pm.

As soon as you dont renew you need a new SIM costing E99

So if you have it for June, July and August it is E249 for 3 months of virtually unlimited data.

Apologies for bringing this thread up again. But did some speed tests over the weekend, same mifi router (huawei). Tests are for portals in mallorca:

1: 3 payg sim (bought in uk). Download 27.41 mbps. Upload 6.23 mbps. ping times 110ms
2: vodafone 120GB card (bought via spainsur). Download 60.55 mbps. Upload 27.38 mbps. ping times 27ms

the sim card from spainsur has quicker internet than my apartment which has 30/30.

will stick with spainsur card. TV streaming, via mobdro on amazon fire tv, was fine.

About 10 days ago, I ran a speed check on the Vodafone 4G service in Sant Carles (Mainland Spain)
Just over 50 Mbs down and 8Mbs up - strange asymmetric split but very good.
All my VPNs back to the home LAN and TVs etc work perfectly - just like having a wired broadband service.
Like above, my Vodafone service is 120Gb per month.

Just an update, but I use a Spanish Vodafone sim for short stays (initially 4gb for €25, then top up €20, for 2gb but now 3.5 gb €20 (limit 30 days.) No speed issues. I spoke to three about their UK offering which promised much but delivered little in Spain. they say it is a configuration issue, but I like the Vodafone plug and play which has plenty of speed measured 48 mbps in Palma, for streaming Netflix etc. Despite other posts, Filmon free only lasts for around 2 minutes before resorting to adverts in my experience so is unusable for me in its free state. I think paying the subscription could be a good and simple option if you want to watch live UK TV.. what do others think? We actually watch around 5 to 6 hours per week including Netflix but like to catch up on news, and some politics from uk so watch that on SWMBO iPad with vpn on catchup. When we are next there I will use a Dratek with nordVPN and the Spainsur 120 gb when we have kids/visitors on board. I have the 120gb sim but have not activated it yet, waiting for the best time to activate economically.
I also considered mirroring device, but with an iPhone and LG smart TV's it means either getting Apple TV or getting an android device, and I think a combination of Netflix, catchup and youtube will give us all the TV we want.

This is one for hurricane really but may be of interest to others
On my boat in Spain at the moment. Lovely day and I should be on the water but just trying out my raspberry pi (which works great from home) on the boat with the marina wifi.
I can connect iPhones etc to the marina wifi with no problems but cannot connect the pi.
It's all gobbledegook to me but I see
Ip address 10.5.6.75
Subnet Mask 255.255.248.0
Default gateway 10.5.0.1
Primary DNS 10.5.0.1

Status: No internet

Any ideas what's going on?
I can click on other wifi's that are about and it asks me for a password......not so my marina wifi ...is this some sort of anti streaming thing they can do.

Sorry, I don't think I can help much.
IP addresses and gateways seem ok to me.
However, I doubt that your current problem is anything to do with streaming blocks.
It is more likely a connection issue to the marina WiFi.
Try deleting the connection in the RPi and tyring again.'

When yo do get connected what TV are you planning to watch on the TV?

I've had a google and my problem is similar to those trying to connect in hotels. It's because you need a username and password which OSMC does not give the option for. However I've downloaded Web Viewer onto my Raspberry (via connecting through my mifi) and it gives me a login page with username and password.....then I'm on the internet but FilmOn gives an error although I can get onto Exodus...I play on although I did take the boat out today......all very organised this year with buoys in the calas at 16 euros per day (€22 for you) and double that high season. Tomorrow we look for free calas.
I'm just playing with the raspberry pi really but might to download a VPN to get iplayer running. All instructions seem to need coding, I thought there might be a simple add-on.
Cheers

OSMC is new to me - looks interesting though - I will check it out sometime.
I use Openelec for the RPi
Openelec has a "System" menu which provides all the extermal WiFi setup without using any other GUI or Terminal interface.
It works for me.

Sorry for the delay.
I'm in Helsinki at tge moment - daughter's wedding
Last week in Devon, I fell and severely broke my ankle.
So it has been a really challenging week to get here.
Should be all over later today.
Then I've got to concentrate on getting better for the boating summer!!

Good luck with your internet TV
