SWMBO went out and bought a telly for the boat in Saturday, the only problem is that reception is a bit crap.... like 'I think there were some horses running later in the afternoon but i'm not sure!'

With the extensive knowledge of forumites on all things gadgetty, whats the best bet? Without having to put a domestic spiky type aerial up.

Like the look of the 'Nargus' type aerial coz its neat and covered, but are they any use?

Are the signal amplifiers any use?

I have a similar problem....even with a Omni Directional Aerial and booster, the picture is ify....I am looking for a di-pole type now to stick in the ground during mooring...any suggestions?

I don't claim to know much on this subject but having just spent a couple fo days on board a boat with a Status 315 and signal amplifier I have to say I was impressed. Managed to get all five stations in both Brighton and Port Solent with watchable quality, even during low tide in Brighton.

It all depends where you are, you will get a good picture with an aerial and freeview box in some places, and no picture at all in others only a few miles away regardless of what aerial you use. I found that a 20 quid aerial from Comet was better than any of the omnidirectional ones costing a lot more.

I have a better idea, chuck the telly overboard and think of other things to keep yourselves amused!

Thats 5 minutes taken care of, what about the rest of the night! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a square aeriel with a small 6x amp built in that runs on 4xAA batteries - its better than it sounds and cost less than 15 squid. I just take it out when i need it & put it in the cockpit. Put it away when i dont need it.

I'd rather a fully fitted & amplified kit, but i'm not spending hundreds on it & i have no radar arch to bolt it too.

use the marina post code to check if digital reception is available in the area. If it is then combine a glomex aerial with a freeview digital box in line and your reception should be just about perfect, they don't cost a bomb either.
