cost & time to survey. most charts still use C18 manual survey data. Llanddwyn was an important anchorage for windjammers waiting for a fair wind or to cross the bar.
Managed to answer my own question, downloaded Tsunamis 99 from Thepiratebay.org using Shareaza.
Fairly straight forward to load and seems to be working well.

As nack all happened for 20 minutes before I gave up I guess you were fortunate or I wasn't.
You need to install a program called Shareaza (or another peer to peer(P2P) file sharing program capable of downloading Torrents). When you click on the file in Thepiratebay Shareaza will open and download the file for you. It took around 5 hrs on my PC as there was only one source.
I believe that most ISPs limit P2P traffic - either by blocking it or slowing down the packets. This technique is called "packet shaping".
This is a big infringement if you think about it.
The internet is the internet and your connection should be allowed to access all of it and not just what the ISPs think.
Thin edge of a big wedge here IMHO.
This is almost certainly why you cant get more than 0.2% - in fact you will get more if you just wait - and wait.
I have had similar problems but just recently, my service provider has let P2P run much faster. In the past, I've left BitComet running for days - even weeks to get the data.
For those that dont know and from what I've learnt, downloading using torrents etc is not the same as simple file downloads. Using torrents, you are collecting bits of your downloads from a community and sharing what you've downloaded to the rest of the community. The client software at your end reassembles the data which it can receive from many sources.
Their charts are vector charts not raster. They have a team of programmers based in St Petersbourgh (dont ask me why) who take the info from RA charts, with permission of course.
This is very straage . Firstly Transas long ago changed the product name to "Navigator" or "Navigator Pro" . Secondly one bought the product together with a dongle and a CD with 10,000 charts on it.
The dongle has a unique number to you which you quote when ringing up for new charts, which you pay for via Visa, then they email you the permit release codes, for the charts you want, which you upload from your CD.
Unless I am missing something here, point I am making is that if your getting a copy of the old Tsunamis from some internet place, you wont be able to use it cos a) no dongle and b) charts wont be available.
Perhaps I am fully out of touch and its all offered free now?
The one I have which I bought on Boatsand outboards for a tenner, is a cracked version with all the charts open, not bad, but of course older charts which is no hassle. works fine with a USB mouse for 27.5 quid.
