After using the fantastic information to get here in Sint Maarten, we now need to move on. The Turks and Caicos Islands are about halfway to our next planned stop in Fort Lauderdale.
Does anyone have any information about the islands? Where to stop, where to avoid, bars, etc.......

My brother in law lived there for about 5 years - on Provo (Provodenciales) . We visited during October. Provo has most of the entire population, and most of the respectable hotels / dive clubs on the North coast. There is not a huge amount of sailing goes on, but there are a few small marinas / harbours.
Turtle cove harbour on the North side is well protected, and need less to say behind a fringe reef. (with very specific transits to go in or out!!) On the South side is the much smaller Harbour club marina. The whole South / East is pretty shallow bank as the islands curve round to the SE. There was a new harbour under construction (cooper jack?) but I think there were money problems... The other islands are largely unpopulated. Grand Turk I did not visit. The Eastern islands are beautiful but almost bleak?
Provo has problems with Haitian refugees, and a lot of people on a small island.!
Worth a visit, but unless you dive it is maybe only good for a few days. If you go into Turtle Cove on the north side, there's a reef called Smith's reef not far east of the entrance. We met eagle rays while snorkelling there - and turtles.
We just swam off the beach!
I'm sure you'll enjoy a few days there.

Don't miss them! Turtle Cove is fab. Worth calling on VHF and getting the free pilot to guide you in, bit reefy. A place I will, one day, re visit. The bar with Karaoke might not be so pleased to see me tho.......

What's yer draft? 1.75m?(say)..This will determine whether you go across or around about....

If its bars , full service, nightlife you're seeking I can think of livelier islands..

Don't miss Grand Turk. One of my favourite islands in the world. Not much there; lots of atmosphere; fantastic diving/snorkling. Not many places left that are so unspoiled. Provo ..... yet another big american resort.
