Anyone here with recent experience checking in and out in a boat less than 10m? Pref Marmaris or Datcha.

Am I right in thinking this can still be done without a agent?

Is this practical or do they make it difficult?

Last year there were rumours of payment problems (is a money transfer required?) and having to type/print the Transit Log. Are these reality or not?

Advice appreciated.

Turkey check in /out

Dunno about the less than 10 m issue,I was under the impression that the length does not matter.....However ..from very recent experience...
We checked out of Turkey on May 17 from Bozburun...quick and cheap..cost 10 YTL.
3 weeks later we checked in at Datcha.. Use "Seher Tours"on the harbourside. It cost 80Euros in total and took about an hour. Pay in Cash.
You have to get the transit log printed rather than filled out by hand..as I found out to my cost last year..(had to pay twice following wrong information given to me by Bodrum Marina) ..so it is almost impossible to do it on your own,as you won't have the passwords etc that you need to access the info.
Bozburun quoted me 85 Euros for check in..but Datcha was more convenient at the time.

Turkey Check-In

Whilst in theory sub-ten metre boats don't need an Agent, it's not encouraged.

We went in at Datcha last summer and whilst the Harbour Master seemed to have some English, it deserted him when we tried to check-in by ourselves and he insisted that we use an Agent. At the Agent the Harboumaster sent us to, we also got quoted €80 (The biggest Agent's office about midway along the quay, up a set of stairs) but another one located about 20m west of there charged us €50 and took about an hour.

I believe that both of the Marinas in Marmaris will arrange check-ins for a similar price and we did meet one yacht who'd managed to check-in and several who'd checked-out (some over 10m) at Marmaris without using an Agent.

We were advised to steer clear of Bodrum, as check-in fees there were running at around €150.

The O.P mentioned recent experience...the prices have risen considerably since last year..as we checked in last month I reckon that the price we paid is the going rate for this year. The agent you mention about 20 m west is in fact Seher Tours.
Agree wholeheartedly re Bodrum again the prices there have risen and are now about E180.Bunch of thieves!!!,especially as you have to pay about £45 to stay in the Marina, and there is no other place to stay.
Since the Transit logs now have to be printed out,the information is recorded online and it is now virtually impossible to DIY.

Just looking at Netsel Marina Marmaris prices.
For the size quoted previously (10.3 x 3.3 ):
For 30 days €22 per day.
For 180 days €11 per day.
For 365 days €7 per day.
Gives it some perspective I guess.
Cheers,
Chris
P.S. I don't work for them. :)

Oops! Not 10m, I'm getting confused with the Greek tax - the limit in Turkey is 10Tons, isn't it?

So I gather the TL does have to be printed regardless of the compulsory agent if the boat is heavier than the limit.
Even so, we still haven't determined if one can pay cash still, or if an account is needed - can anyone clarify?
It seems hard to believe that many smaller boats like mine are willing/able to pay such enormous amounts to get a bit of paper filled in! Surely someone must know!

Bozburun - check in/out??? How? Has Boz been made a port of entry, or is the agent doing the business in Marmaris and the boat arrives/leaves from Boz?

Thanks for the info, everyone.

Bozburun is a port of entry.. I don't know when this became official, but it seems to be Tere is onle one agent "Atlas agency" the office is in the street one back from the square..a couple of doors along from the pharmacy. The girl who runs the office has very limited English ,but has been provided with a set of printed "prompts" which she uses to communicate . If things get difficult she phones the head office in Marmaris and you speak to someone there. Checking out is simpler...the Harbourmasters office is in the same building as passports and customs and you don't need the agent. The Harbourmaster did the business for me & the total cost was ytl 10.
As far as I know, there is no problem with paying cash. Just make sure you get a receipt.

An internet search reveals that Boz is not a port of entry, so presumably the agent must be going to Marmaris to do the paperwork - how long did the check-in take?

This is a pretty good service if you can do it at a civilised place like that and not have to divert to Datcha or Marmaris unncessarily.

Wintering in Turkey with children

We plan to winter in Turkey, and would be interested in getting any advice on marinas which are child friendly. It would also be nice to meet up with any families planning to overwinter, maybe organise some schooling etc.

FWIW, Just climbed off the boat on Saturday having spent the last two weeks sailing around the Boz peninsular and over to the Gulf of Fethiye, and the local area Pilot (the one that is more of an ad for all the little bars and stuff) has an article detailing how Bozburun has now become an official port of entry. Didn't use it this trip though, but was contemplating it at one point.

"bozburun is now a port of entry! Can ye no' read"

But computer says nooooooo.

The computer wasn't standing there checking in!!!!
It is quite possible..despite the advance of technology in the 21 st century..that the computer has not been told officially that there has been an addition to the Turkish ports of entry. There is no substitute for the "mark 1 eyeball"
