We obtained a transit log in Bozburun a few weeks ago. We had never taken our own boat into Turkey before and used an agent. We were a bit taken aback by some of the questions e.g. none of our official documents show the beam of the boat so we had to hunt through invoices and Jeanneau specs. to provide the measurement.

But the main surprise was being asked to detail where we planned to go - you don't have to specify for your Greek DEKPA. We had a rough idea of going east towards Kas and beyond and then back to Bodrum and north to Cesme or Kusadasi where we hope to check out.

I think there were some misunderstandings with the agent who suggested difficulties with Antalya and also that we must check out at the last port detailed! Our log lists Kas to Kusadasi,, so when we got to Kas, we went a bit further east to Kekova (all anchorages) but decided not to risk going on to Finike and Antalya.
So for anyone getting a log for the first time - be well prepared!

Good afternoon:

Tennisgirl: But the main surprise was being asked to detail where we planned to go - you don't have to specify for your Greek DEKPA.

Different countries different systems. Listing your proposed itinerary has been part of the Transit Log for as long as I can remember. I include a very wide ranging list such as "Kusadasi to Adana" and no one has ever raised an eyebrow.

For what it's worth I have not been asked to show my transit log by anyone other that when dealing with port police etc. If I was ever asked it was so insignificant that I've forgotten.

Cheers

I rather thought the box on the TL was merely for "next port of call" and follows "previous port", you don't need to list your itinerary after that. No one does. Whether you actually go there or not is a bit immaterial, Marmaris would do in your case.
Beam? So what? There is a box to fill in - it needs a number in it. Think of a reasonably credible one. Bureaucracy can be remarkably unimaginative and inflexibly applied in Turkey but it usually doesn't cause too much grief.
I've been told that this ridiculous TL system is the result of a bureaucracy a few decades ago that had no concept of foreign vessels doing anything other than entering, unloading , loading and clearing off again. The notion that foreign vessels might want to bumble around in Turkish waters for extended periods was more than they could cope with, and so the TL system came about but was still based on the arrive-load-unload-leave papework system that was all the maritime agencies then could imagine. Hence previous and next ports of call as if all vessels work to a fixed pre-planned route sttructure.

Your agent seems a bit, well, pernickety. May I ask which one it was? PM me if you prefer. I have a good reason for asking.

No complaints about Turkey, we have been enjoying our trip enormously, but I thought it might be of help to first timers.

The agent would not accept the figure we gave, but wanted an official certificate of some sort giving length and beam, and gross and net! tonnage It's a Jeanneau SO 35 so standard size and nothing odd, but it caused a problem. (PM sent, MASH)

As for producing the log, we have visited 3 marinas on our trip (mainly to stock up and get water) and the ONLY document they want to see is the transit log. We have been asked for no other papers.

The added irony of all this is that the printed copy of our transit log was misaligned on the printer and is almost unreadable!

They usually are!
The Turks can be over offıcıous wıth paperwork, but all ın all they manage ıt quıte well.
Personally I have never had a problem wıth the transıt log, even ıf the people lısted are not on board, when arrıvıng at a marına!
And lıke others have saıd the cruısıng range ıs wıde open, mıne says Mersın to Istanbul!
