I got so hacked off after a miserable Whitsun I booked a week's charter from Kos in October upon my return. I've charterd in Turkey before & know its prohibitevely expensive to enter Greece hence the reason for Kos, visit all the places we've sailed past & not been able to enter. However does anyone know the situation the other way around ie a Greek yacht visiting Turkey & then returning to Greece?

They should give you all the ships papers. I see no reason why not. I have chartered in the carribean and gone from country to country.

When i did a flot in that area they would not allow us to go to turkey from greece but i assume that is cos the ships papers were not complete with evidence of VAT paid and other certs required.

Check with charter comapny.

I don't know the law on this subject but it is definitely possible. I was near Gocek 3 weeks ago alongside a Greek registered charter yacht with an British crew.
I hope for your sake that the winds are lighter this October than last year when I spent 12 days sheltering on Patmos while they blew solidly between F8 and F10, but I've been told that it was exceptional.
Good sailing,

Regards

Things have changed in recent years...

The Turks introduced a "Transit Log" which was merely a purchased "Vignette" or tax on foreign boats entering their waters - it was aimed at the Greeks over Cyprus but was technically applied to all visitors so as not to seem to discriminate but a lot of "other nationals" got the blind eye treatment! The Greeks then imposed something similar which is currently being challenged by the European Commission and looks likely to get stopped. The Turks want to enter the EU so are also backing off. The situation means that you may or may not get charged the E100 at you port of entry but most Greek charter companies (Our boat is managed by Kiriacoulis) don't now prohibit entry into Turkish waters. We based our boat in Kos for part of last year and entered Turkish waters on many occasions with no charge. Be sure to visit Simi as well though, its a beautiful place but bring the plank aboard at night or you might get uninvited ferrul feline guests dropping their litters in your saloon!

Just got back from Greece last night and the situation has eased a lot between the Greeks & Turks.
