The previous owner left a veritable treasure trove of stuff for us and I came across a jar of TurboGel 'Synthetic Gel Lubricant' with Teflon, 'Marine Formulation'. We have some almost seized plastic zips on our canvas covers and I decided to try this gel. It looks a bit like silicone grease in a tub. The result is nothing short of incredible. The zips now slide up and down better than new. I'd love to know what other boaty uses there are for this interesting stuff. Many thanks.

Top Tip

Wipe some on the luff tape of the genny before its hoisted and will go up and down the foil a treat.

Piston-hanks; snap-shackles; mainsail track; winch-handle thumb-locks; locker latches; sheet-carriage tracks (but only if you can avoid trading on them thereafter); almost anything that slides or clicks! I find it equally good on wood-to-wood slides as well: wash-boards, for instance.

I did a Google search and found some very strange products with the same name but I did find marine mega store had it on there web site

I have found TorboGel in chandleries here (N Scotland) in tubs or tubes. Both are useful. I can't believe it is a local speciality. Good luck!
