Turbo 36 Chain wash

I own a 1982 Fairline Turbo 36 which has an anchor wash spout driven by a Jabasco pump situated in the chain locker. It looks as though it was part of the original build. However although the pump has been stripped down and appears to work okay, there just is not enough lift to get the water up the long inlet pipe. Has anyone else had this problem and knows how to solve it?

Is the intake pipe clear of obstructions? Have you tried flushing the intake pipe backwards with a pressure hose?

How about relocating the pump to a lower position?

Ian,

The Jabsco should be capable of pulling a heft vacuum for this purpose. There are a few things to check in addition to that already suggested, you say it has been serviced, but:-
Is the cover plate warped at all?
Is the paper gasket still intact, under this cover?
Is the shaft seal OK?

The pipe-work running up to the pump should be pretty tough, it is possible to have this collapse under the pull of the vacuum.

Good luck,
