Has anyone experience of buying a trysail track,

I have a trysail with slides and have considered fitting a track, but cannot see anywhere on line prices for such a thing.

(This is not intended to be a debate on the advantages or disadvantages of trysails versus a 3rd reef...)
I'll get a 3rd reef fitted also...

Mast track
I had wooden masts on my Stellas & they both had brass track. Into those went brass sliders whipped to the mainsail. There was no problem unless one of the screw heads pulled out slightly in which case the slider would catch. The answer was to select a slider with the centre part slightly hollowed so that if this did happen it cleared the head of the screw. I assume that you would use pop rivets so these will project into the track slightly. In this case you need to find a slider that clears the rivet head.
I am guessing here but I expect that you have to be carefull that due to high load you do not pull any rivets loose & the sail does not drop due to a slider catching. Perhaps a shallow "X" track with sliders like cars ( think genoa) might be better . However, this may be a bit heavy up the side of your existing mast groove plus , as it normally goes down past the gooseneck to the deck, ( to allow stowage on the cabin top) bending may be an issue.

Thanks for those. The second suggestion is a bit complex for a trysail (and expensive) the first looks interesting it looks like Schaefer do a version that might be usable. Although I think a tee track is probably what is needed...

At least it looks cheap enough. It has given me an idea that maybe I could scavenge track from rotting wooden masts which I know are in a ditch in a yard...

Have you clicked the link I gave? The prices are much cheaper

The track on my Stella was only 16mm & at £ 75-00 + vat for 3.66 M it should not break the bank. How many metres do you need? A try sail is not going to be very tall surely

Yes , of course I clicked the links.... But they take me to tracks which are for mainsails, and which are used to slot into the existing groove in the mast.

They are also priced in dollars so I expect posting and import etc from US would be a pain, if not impossible..
I think there is some confusion somewhere. Allen is a British company & the prices are in £'s
Here is a screen shot. But i could not get the section in the shot
so it is a bit dissjointed. The first lot is for fixing to a flat surface but i am struggling to post the picture
It does not matter if it is a mainsail or trysail. The track is the same & goes on the surface of the mast, not inside a groove.

Thanks for the replies, especially daydream believer for the link (which I had not noticed)

As the sail has slides already fitted and as I want to wrap the lower portion around the mast the Allen product looks perfect and will be on my shopping list after the break..

I have just seen that they may have a problem delivering the track in long lengths. I am sure there are couriers who can do this & it may just be a case of attaching it to a piece of timber. They are only 9 miles from me so if you have a problem with supply to the EU, let me know after xmas & we may be able to work together to get it shipped to you or to a ferry port where you could collect on the UK side .

Thanks for that kind offer. I'll keep it in mind....
