Re: Trying to load \"Hera\".

And I thought you were referring to the evidently massive weight of people, beer etc in the cockpit and lazzarette. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Seriously she looks good. Do my eyes deceive me or is that a masthead rig on a Folkboat. If it is I may have to have a word with the FBA about you.

Re: Trying to load \"Hera\".

Yes Ken it is mast head. Hera was built in Poland in 1965 but I believe she was re-rigged in this country in te 70/s. This photo taken May 2008. I have been looking for sails for 6 months and last week I received a set of "nearly new" Tan sails made by Goldfinch Sails of Whitstable. Will try and get some photos done when the wind drops.
Is Border Maid staying in the water for the winter? Hera has moved into the inner marina at Lossie but is staying in the water so we are looking forward some nice frosty winter sailing.
Mike.

Re: Trying to load \"Hera\".

She's still in the water at the moment but my plan is to lift out about the end of November, back in April or so. There are a few jobs to do that would be much easier ashore/impossible afloat. There's also a school of thought which holds that mahogany planking lasts better if allowed to dry out for a few months once a year or so; I'm not sure whether I believe it but it certainly doesn't seem to have any ill effects.

I am thinking about a visit to the Moray Firth next summer so will look forward to seeing your new sails.

Re: Trying to load \"Hera\".

I had a mast head rigged Folkboat named 'Sarka'. Built 'cold moulded' by Jeremy Rogers.. rumer was that she was the plug for the Contessa, don't know if there was any truth in that or what modifications were made.

I was never quite sure whether she was a cold mould Contessa or a Funny Folkboat, however she did sail extremley well.
