I'm looking at buying a yacht with a 1988 twin cylinder Beta Marine diesel engine. The plate on the engine has 2KC1EA on it. Not a model I've heard of before, neither has Google. Anybody know anything about these engines: spares availability, general durability? If that isn't the model number how can I find the model number?

Regards,
Paul

Thanks for the advice. Yes, you are right, the people at Beta Marine are very helpful. Below is the information they gave me.

My colleague (who will have built it) says that it is a 480cc Isuzu (2 cylinder). We started the company in 1987 and this was manufactured in the first couple of years as Beta Marine. If it was as you say 1988, then this engine is about 22 years old. It was an Isuzu base that we sold as an engine model: Beta 2KC. In 1991 we started producing Beta Marine engines based on the Kubota engine and have established an enviable reputation for world beating quality and reliability.

I'll praise them then. I have nothing but good things to say about them. The tech people there do exactly what they say they are going to do. They are always helpful and if the person you want to speak to is not there, the message gets to them and they get back to you. 10/10

I'll praise them too. I've installed three Betas over the years and their customer support has been absolutely terrific.
