Just bought a boat which was apparently mentioned in the March 2007 copy of MBM,anybody able to photcopy or poss email the article .?
It concerns a Transocean 36 which the first owner spent a couple of decades finishing..
Any other info at all this this boat would be most helpful, the only other example seems to be for sale in Australia. Fred.

So the French trip was a smokescreen, never heard of a Transocean, tell us more.........
Don't have 3/07 MBM but son may have it, I'll ask him.

Nice boat. There is one near me. There is also another one for sale without a flybridge. Is the flybridge really small on yours?

The boat was built on the Broads over a 30 year period.Launched in 2005 and then laid up until last year.50 hours total on engines.

Trying to find out who laid up hull poss during mid 1970s.? Bennett design perhaps via Colvic or Aquafibre.

Any info on Transocean welcome,Google has drawn a blank.
and yes that fly is weeny to say the least, but it is almost certainly coming off sooner or later to enable me to get up river under several low bridges. It is very obviously held on with a series of big stainless alan (hex) bolts.

will it fit under this if we go fast enuff ?

I remember the story as the boat was in my old marina after it was launched. Unusual boat but looked in good order when it was on the Broads. I will have a look through my back copies to see if I have the one you are after.

Thanks Greg.Story seems to be that chap spent a lifetime building the the old girl up in Norfolk ? and then passed away leaving his son the sad task of disposing of boat.It ended up in Essex boatyards possibly in P/X for something more modern/sensible and hence up for sale.
Essex boatyards were a pleasure to deal with and cannot be recommend highly enough for their service.Very interesting to wander underneath all those posh Phantoms and Squadrons.

March 2007 copy of MBM?

ybw themselves have a very efficient service of backnumbers posted or downloaded - have used recently and thoroughly recommend.

Yes ....spent a while putting increasingly bizarre variations of Transocean 36 into search engine until finally admitting ignominious defeat. :)

Bit old fashioned but I suppose you could actually phone up their copy service and ask for the article in the Mar 07 copy? Or even email if you are in a totally different time zone. I believe there may be a person there.

A very helpful forumite has come up with some info about boat hull was built by Aquafibre in Norfolk.

The one near me has an aft cabin and is in abit of a rough state. Looks like a moonraker hull, but then I see a bit of an early broom 37 hull in there.

I used to work on one about 15 years ago, think it was aft cabin version and I was told that they were moulded at Aquafibre and fitted out at Herbert Woods in Potter Higham. I might know someone who knows a bit more so will ask tommorow.

Yes, I saw that it was up with EBY - even flirted with the idea of going to have a look at it. My recollection is that it was worked on in the owner's back garden but not in Norfolk...they just decided to launch her on the Broads. I guess the owner must have passed on after it was launched - very sad as he can't have had too long to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

I have had a look through my back copies of MBM...unfortunately SWMBO insisted on a clear out and I no longer have it so sorry, I can't help. As already suggested, try the back copy order service. I have used it several times and you get a PDF of the article for about six quid almost immediately.

Old git just had a look in the Library, I have it here in my hand and can remember reading it way back then, would you like me to copy it for you and send it to you?.

Send me a pm with your details if yes.

Thanks to all

A brand new forumite over on the Thames Forum very kindly sent me a PDF of the MBM article last night ,which explains all, will attempt to post it later on.
The hull looks to be a generic Aquafibre moulding of the period which appeared under several guises over the years, one of which was the Broom Transocean, funnily enough there is one for sale just across the way in Chatham.
