Once a piece of equipment has let you down the trust is gone.
It doesn't really matter that you've got it fixed - it will very probably break again and could lead to all sorts of disasters - beyond that we know that the trust has gone and and therefore I think we owe it to our spouses, partners, offspring, colleagues and fellow forumites to replace it with new - AND furthermore - to not do that is being completely stingy, irresponsible and reckless.
This is the transcript of a phone call I've just had with Jimi who is currently on a pontoon in the gathering gloom trying to fix his GPS with the silver lining from a packet of fags and a bit of araldite.
Anyone else wish to comment.

Don't tell me - he's nicked the coax cable on his GPS antenna and is trying to repair it? Should have run the coax properly in the first place! No wonder he's got a short.

In general you are right, although sometimes things work better after they have been fixed than they ever did before. It depends how well they were made or installed in the first place.

My other comment is that you are a mean beggar talking about him on line, knowing full well that he is not currently able to defend himself.

But don't let that stop you (as if it would) - its all adds to the fun of the forum !!

Hmm
Well he often asks me where I am and when he finds I'm not near a computer, the wee sod sledges me something rotten - its payback time!

Fair Comment.

What I find disappointing is that he has gone to the marina without offering to polish my hull. This is now the only job preventing a re-launch which would free up space in the yard for others.

Similarly, I am sure Ken would appreciate some help with his deck stripping.

But what does Jimi do? Goes and plays with his own GPS. Its not on really.

Exactly
And I do believe that he was contracted to do some wage-earning work today but has thrown a sickkie on account of over-indulgence of the brown and foaming last evening.
In my opinion it is exactly this kind of behaviour which has reduced this once great nation to what it is today.
As he is officially exiled from the hameland, I can't see him being allowed to charter the Dunstaffnage bike (lovely girl in her day) let alone this bulge keeler he's on about when he continues to demonstrate this kind of behaviour.

Oh yes - quite frequently - especially at West Highland Week when it can get really busy.

He's got real problems if he thought the gloom was gathering at 15:42 this afternoon - more than just his GPS packing up, maybe his eyes are fading?

Jimis started a GPS museum, and is specialising in period connectors.

If anyone has any historic models, preferably with a short piece of coax attached please PM him. He was too shy to ask you all directly.
