Truma Gas Boilers

Had one on my last boat, but a bugger to get to work as the flame used to blow out. Apparently when the boat was sold the installation was condemned.

Wouldn't bother again as it was more trouble than it was worth, and the spares make Eberspacher and Webasto look cheap.

I still have the parts lists - if you want them PM me.

Sorry, missed that. However would be a bit wary as they have no presence in the marine industry, only in caravans. Never seen them offered for boats.

Gas heating on yachts has a very mixed history and despite the price advantages has never made significant inroads against the diesel fired opposition.

Mine holds about 12 litres.... it's a model from 13 years ago, but looks just like your link.

12-14 litres is not enough for a decent shower. I've actually got an instant gas water heater to supply the shower and, if the Truma gave up the ghost, I would modify the pipe system so the gas water heater fed the kitchen and bathroom sinks. The hot air heating facility takes a chill off, but doesnt provide any real heat - I've got a Boatman Stove for serious heating.

On a seagoing GRP yacht, I would probably have a diesel fired heating system, and a calorifier for hot water. I wouldnt buy a Truma.

Yep, got one - 14 litre.

Fitted as original equipment at the Dehler yard when the boat was new (20 years ago). We find it very useful, when we anchor rather than go to a marina, which is nearly always, so it gets a fair bit of use.

Very easy to use, take off the plastic exhaust cover (in the cockpit) and set the thermostat and we have enough for a shower within 20 minutes. No noise, no smell.

I have one in my caravan. It looks almost identical to that but obviously a different flue arrangement (just a big hole in the side of the caravan for a ballanced flue, air in / flue gas out)

It works well. BUT I have serious doubts about the design / build of them.

The water tank is stainless steel with a burner underneath. the stainless steel outlet water pipe on the top is SOLDERED to the stainless water tank.

Twice now the joint has failed and started leaking. Twice I have had to re solder it with the blowtorch and stainless steel solder.

I would have preferred to have seen a welded joint there.

In the caravan world they have earned the nickname Trauma.

I had a small Truma on-demand water heater in the Broom 30. It had a mushroom topped vent on top of the sunbridge, and worked really really well. Zero power consumption, we had twin LPG cylinders, and used one per year for everything, including the heating.

Spares were reasonable, and it was a DIY job when the boiler was frost damaged. £116 for the part!

I would have another, no problem...
