True love - Trurkish man sails 16ft yacht from Turkey to Plymouth

I did read it & I don't think that second half of the story documenting his obsession was there or otherwise I can't imagine how I missed it......Clearly there was more to this story than met my eye......he sounds like a dangerous fruitcake & obviously that is the reason the customs people pounced on him.

Did you notice the bit I highlighted, where the reporter seems to think that the Greek island of Kos is actually a Turkish city?

The original link I made was the only bit published online by The Herald at the time of posting. The full story which appeared in the paper version was put online later this morning.

Seems a bit odd that they would only publish part of the story.....almost as if they were deliberately trying to stir up controversy.

PS:I think it was your headline "true love" that through me.

Y.....he must have passed through other Countries on route I wonder how they treated him?

What a miserable Country we have become when you consider all the immigrants we see on our streets many of whome I'm sure can't be legal :(

Cant believe he got past Portugal without getting boarded, no passport would have meant a problem.

He does sound a bit creepy yes.

I wonder if he's Adrian_ ... (hope I don't get banned)!

If you don't get banned for this it would be really hard to explain why I got banned at all.

Back to the topic, this is something that I tried to post as a comment to the article published in the Daily Mail. Of course the comment was never approved:
I have no clue who Claire Ellicott (the supposed author of this piece of ****) is, but if we're talking about an actual employee (as opposed to a nom de plume used colectivelly by the "journalists" from the Daily Mail) this person should be fired on the spot.
Reason 1: the "proof" that Culum was deported from Italy is actually a paper issued for a citizen of an english-speaking country. I suppose no one bothered to read it in full, but it clearly mentions that "The deportation order is notified in English, which is the official language of the foreign deportee's county of origin."
Also Culum's name is not mentioned in the document's fragment presented in this article.

Reason2: If Culum "met Miss Murray while on a scuba-diving trip in Northern Cyprus, where she was working in a cafe.", as stated in the article, obviously he would have also stalked her in Nothern Cyprus, where she worked. Therefore how could he manage to get deported from Cyprus - the EU country?

You can read here this masterpiece of tabloid "journalism":
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-waitress-Seven-year-odyssey-ends-arrest.html

IMO most of the part that depicts this turkish guy as a fruitcake stalker is a fabrication, ment to justify his arrest and deportation.

Maybe someone who knows how these things work in the UK can enlighten me: if someone loses his documents at sea, is it illegal to make port in the UK, immediatelly contact the immigration authority, explain the situation and request assistance for obtaining a duplicate passport? If it's not illegal, why was this guy arrested BEFORE he made port? (or illegally attempted to beach)

P.S. Please note how this guy's website was conveniently taken down, so the tabloids can claim all sort of **** about him...

Well well - look what's just turned up on eBay...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sailing-Y...Sailing_Boats_ET&hash=item1c2e6b9870#viTabs_0

By the by - I never knew the Leisure 17 came with an inboard...

Pretty sure it didn't come with an internal steering position either :)

At first I thought the ship's wheel was just a weirdo's idea of decoration, but then I noticed the compass above it so I assume it was actually "plumbed in". A very sensible addition if you're going to sail halfway round Europe to harass someone, but a bit inconvenient if putting the boat to its intended use.

I do like the comment "Please note that we are selling this yacht on behalf of the owner who has been detained by the authorities." :)
