How about using a thinner SS locking nut?

this is actually a good idea, there are many bronze ones available, ill give it a try.

So the update is I went out and bought a 3/4 inch bronze pipe locknut - this saves a bunch of space, I contacted trudesign and they recommended 6 threads for any fitting connection, this will give me about 8 threads and enough room to be able to turn off the elbow if needed and install the entire valve with the collar in place. This morning I 5200'ed in the through hull and the elbow. tomorrow ill attach the ball valve and job done.

Turned out great!
