After getting a soaked bottom yesterday (careless helmsmanship and a nasty steep wave), and finding the only other pair of breeks I had with me were the lower part of a Marks and Sparks almost wool suit, I must, reluctantly, face the fact that it is time to augment the wardrobe.

Had a look around Cala Galera and Riva di Traiano, but was grateful there was nothing in my size. I'm a fat basterd and have never paid €100 for a pair of trousers (maybe that's why I've never had a proper pair of sailing trous?).

I've got an old pair of golf trous (that cost less than £20) that I thought would be ok for the boat but they don't fit me any more.

Any advice (except going on a diet)?

have you tried a kilt.
I'm told they are made from 7 yards of cloth. that should give some room for expansion.
I have heard the Greeks wear kilts of some description. probabaly not quit as masculine as a tartan one.
As to wether or not they keep yer bum warm. I have no expierience.;)

On the other hand a cheep filght to any location in the USA might be a good idea.
Trousers are unavalable in US.
But there seams to be a great demand for XXXL and even mor XXXXXL Pants.

Checkerd which is very simmilar to tartan is quite traditional particualrly the larger ones.
Unfortunatly spandex is also poplular in large sises. some times in very bright colors. Life jacket Yellow or Oarnge would be an additional safty feature.;)

Find your nearest local version of Screwfix and have a look at their work trousers - tough, hard wearing, loads of pockets - perfect sailing gear...

Buy a pair of saggy track suit bottoms (sweat pants I believe from google)... Not the shiny ones the ones that are not quite fleece, not very attractive but to the job comfortable and easy to move in...
