Trouble comes in threes !!

That was short lived !! All fine yesterday - now today engine will not start ...

I can get a half hearted 'cough' from it occasionally as though she is about to start - that may be more the Starter Fluid I spray into intake before hitting key ... but that's all ... most time its just turning over with no firing at all.

I pulled a plug to check spark and it was hard to see .. in fact I don't think I saw a spark .. but there must be something if she has shown signs of 'firing' ...

As a last resort - I even cut out the heat damaged part of the engine wiring loom as I found wires 'welded together' in the section that had been heat damaged .. cut back to good wires and then joined temporarily with screw terminals ... will get an auto electrics guy to do a better job ... or I will get hold of good crimps and rejoin with them.

I may end up darining tanks to see if any water ... but she was running sweet yesterday ... I only added another 40ltrs of 95 to the already 60lts on board today ..
Containers were good and empty ...

Pull fuel filter see what may have been drawn through ??

No worries mate ... your hearts in right place !!

I have managed to get some life from it - sort of half hearted cough now and again but not enough to start. The fuel system is pushing fuel through .. I cracked the unions to each carb and fuel was under pressure there .. so pump etc is working ... move throttle and fuel is squirted into air intake .. so its not fuel. In fact could be if spark is too weak - fuel is wetting plugs .. (flooded).

Noted that the HT Coil was warm .. more than I would normally expect - and especially that engine did not start - so heat cannot be from engine block where its mounted. I have removed it and will be replacing it along with distributor rotor arm ... hoping that may help improve the spark.

I will replace those two items ... crimp the wiring loom I removed burnt wires from and if that does not solve it - then its get the 'professionals' in ...
 
Today bought sets of barrel crimps to make better joints of the wiring loom .....

This was the temporay measure to be sure it was not the damaged loom preventing start ...

Now it has barrel crimps .. but tbh - I'm not so happy and may look a cropping the loom as its longer than needed and fitting a multi plug - which it has further along ... you can see it just behind the choc block

New rotor arm and HT coil tomorrow ...

Is it possible that the distributor was accidentally moved while trying to wrestle the elbow back in
 
Picked up new HT Coil and rotor arm ....

Fitted coil (smaller diameter than the old - meant I had to sort the bracket ... but its fitted ..

The rotor arm is correct part number but the centre boss is wider - so it does not sit down properly in distributor - old one back in ...

Turned key - POPS - BANGS - probably all that fuel that got pumped in yesterday .... but finally up and running ...

She doesn't like idling at present - think she needs a good run to clear her out ...

I feel quite chuffed with myself !!

 
Took her for a run today ... kept her at just over 5k rpm .... 18 - 19kts .... ran like a dream ...


Don't know why the phone amplifies the engine sound as its way quieter than the video shows ... you can have a normal conversation in cockpit with engine running ...
