For those of you who were kind enough to show an interest in our renovation of Trotwood, here she is so far . . She's been re-wired, engines renovated, re-painted, polished and generator etc etc added. New stanchions, re-chromed lamps, electric windlass, helm seats and upholstery/carpets to follow. Back in the water soon, so watch out - you're going to need your sunglasses on by the time we've finished!

Bray ladies are experts at antifouling (Not much sun in March though!).

Lovely job. I remember her from our time on the river with our parents in the 1970's. She was always very classy. I am intrigued though by your move from a traditional steel aft cabin to modern sportsboat and back to traditional/classic. Was the Fairline a rash decision made after a liquid lunch? :)

Not really - we love boats, and the Targa was very pretty. Before the Valk Kruiser we had a Sealine F33 so you can see how we fluctuate! We wanted Trotwood 4 years ago, though, and just 'missed' her. We love doing up boats but hope to keep this one a long time. Thanks for your interest, where are you based?

Apropos of nothing, I have an Uncle and Aunt who live on the Thames tow path near Chertsey. Their house (one of the ones built on stilts) was called 'Trotwood' when they bought it.

Perhaps there's a connection? We thought the original owners came from Bourne End way, though, as we know they were friends with 'Andrews' (who built the boat) - before they fell out over the size of the engines that is!
There is a smaller, very well-known, Andrews boat down that way called Edgewood and a large house there called the same, so I've always imagined if there was a possible connection. Hence I've always wondered if there was house to go with Trotwood too?
When I Google Trotwood you just come up with the Charles Dickens character or an American company who made the first wooden mobile homes?
Thanks very much for your interest I appreciate it.

Ah yes, Betsey Trotwood - another connection is that I've played a couple of gigs in the pub by that name in Clerkenwell!

My Uncle and Aunt bought the house in the late 1970s - I don't know anything about the original owners, as I was just a child at the time.

There was (and I believe still is) a wooden sign outside the house with 'Trotwood' on it. I will see if I can find out anything more. It could be pure coincidence of course, but many of those houses were weekend places for people who also had Thames cruisers, and my relatives still have a mooring.

It's a beautiful boat. I recently put my boat back in the water after a six month renovation.
I recommend dipping it in for an hour to check for leaks before detaching from the crane.
