Trotman barge below Hampton court

Always willing to help.

Once again we are treated to more vitriol from Oldgit on this previously comprehensively argued topic

OG is pleased to buy an EA river licence on any of his frequent trips above Allington and regards it as privilege to be able to use his boat on the waterway and happy to pay despite some not inconsiderable additional contribution towards "water regulation" in the form of both personal and business taxes.:)

After 12 month probabationary period OG satisfied the RCC membership committee that he would be a useful member of the club and they kindly put him on the waiting list for a club mooring and a mere four years later. :)
The club ethos is one of contributing what you are able for the mutual benefit of all, the club assets are mantained entirely by club members except where heavy engineering beyond the scope of the club is involved such as piling etc, this is funded from members of the club.
The big advantage is of course working this way is that costs are kept to a minimum but you frequently have get your hands dirty for the benefit of others.
It would appear to be a successful formula as another visit to our website will show the club was formed in 1905.

Perhaps it is an idea that you may wish to consider on the Thames or failing that contact me and will get you the membership forms to get you some inexpensive moorings and no EA fees.
You can probably get down to Teddington on a day ticket and have probably got spare pair of overalls somewhere around .
Ps. Can you make tea ?:)

Re: Always willing to help.

Good lord. One shudders to think what the inside looked like.
It's appalling how the Regents canal and parts of the Thames have been allowed to turn into an unsightly squat populated by middle class drop outs.

“Living in an uninsulated, run down narrowboat with no electricity, cooking facilities, running water or toilet, took its toll on them both physically and mentally. The small space, lack of comfort, and constant work became at times too much,” she said.

Ah, didums.

Who forced them to buy it / live in it? After all, whatever they might do, the 'small space' is fairly unavoidable.

No mention of their toilet facilities. What do the canal squatters do for a pump out or elsan disposal if they don't move?

And on that note, I wonder if the CCTV at the lock has any footage of the residents of Trotmans Slumboat, filling the river or the island with sewage?

No , it hasn't worked for years.

Someone forgot to set up a maintenance contract after it was installed. I believe it may be on the cusp of being repaired at the moment.

Jim, my team leader at the time and I tried for ages to get it repaired but got nowhere.

Acroprops? Are you sure?

It wasn't a super gun was it.

I suppose they could be attempting to put space between the boats and the bank in order to repel boarders.

Or build another level for more accommodation? Not sure but ig they are above the lock cut bridge and the boats were suddenly too high to get under the bridge that could be a delaying tactic ?

There are boats passing which offer coal, diesel, gas, and at least one offers a pump out service.

Definitely acros ...

There were between 7 and 10 laid out on the island , all shiny and new.

As an aside , I note that the slumdogs are welding up acro props yesterday and today ...

Wonder what is planned ?

What are the welding them to? I only know of acro props that are scaffold for holding up floors or beams and you don't weld them in place. I can't think what Trotman would want them for, unless the roof is giving way and he's trying to stabilise his slum.
