Trolling with a turbo diesel

Some gear boxes have trolling valves not sure which.I have trolled on a Bartram 38 with Cummins 350's for hours in Florida but we were in and out of gear to bring fish to the boat every couple of minutes. She came to no harm

I often travel for many hours on auto pilot at about 1200 RPM (not sure if thats trollling though). However never an issue for my modern diesel.

The trolling valves are to allow speed lower than a fixed gear, at idle. Boats propped to go fast commonly have problems going slow enough.

I'm doing ~3.8 knots at idle which in many cases are too fast for trolling. Can force it down by lowering trim tabs and dragging a big bucket, but it's impractical with downriggers and rods to attend to also.
