Following on from another post by Sealine28 about visiting Holland, I promised I would post some pictures from our most recent trip to Zeeland.
Here we go, just click 'back' if you get bored.
Having left Zelzate (near Gent), we're in the lock at Terneuzen, going out to the Westerschelde. If you wonder why it was crowded with boats towards the end of the lock, they were all waiting for the red lights at the middle of the lock (which is used if they operate only half the lock with doors in the middle).
On the Westerschelde, most favorite occupation of our youngest son : sleep, even on the plane.
Indeed, you come across some large ships - watch out for their bow wave - even when they're at a distance !
Breskens, right opposite Vlissingen at the entrance of the Schelde which is almost 5 kms wide.
Vlissingen has a very small lock entering the inner harbor and leading to the Canal through Walcheren, going to Middelburg and Veere. About 5 boats can enter at once so you may have to wait your turn, unless you're lucky.
Watch out for the ferries as they depart from nearby the lock and they create some wash as they pass by.
Here we are in the lock with a Galeon 440. Nice boat !
In Middelburg, we had friends over for dinner. Pictures don't do justice to nice marina in town !
In Veere marina
Veere has a nice historic town centre, worth a visit.
Impression from Veerse Meer (always a bit more sheltered than the Schelde)
Lock leading from the Veerse Meer to the Oosterschelde, quite a bit larger.
Me and my oldest son
while the youngest ... yes, what else ?
Zeeland brug at Oosterschelde (near Goes, Kats, Zierikzee)
Some nice boats
The skipper ...
Krammer lock leading to Tholen
and Tholen
On the way back (Oosterschelde again near Yrseke, famous for its lobster and oysters)
And on the Westerschelde with Vlissingen in the background, obligatory wake shot and happy faces.
Had a wonderfull two long weekends end of May, beginning of June, hope more to follow shortly.
