Trip to Guernsey

oi - I resent that remark. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We went for the meal and to do a spot of fishing on the banks SW of Alderney on the way home Sunday.......the drinks were a happy coincidence!

we also planned and prepared carefully - at 1000h I called Cutter and cancelled because of the forecast and weather. At 1300h, an hour out of Poole heading for a fishing mark, we decided it wasn't that bad after all (N5) and we would just go a little further to see what it was like at 14miles (which we judged to be the worst it would get) and at 1500h we collected a couple of cans of beer in the landing net from a Scuttlebutt boat moored up in Cherbourg........... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mr Cautious here.

As Brendan says, they used to cross the channel in rowing boats, then they invented flybridge cruisers.

Yes, I would do it, but I would prefer to be in company of another boat. My only reservation is the four man crew.

I would prefer to keep the two rear seats free for a small valise liferaft and spare fuel, unless you have an accompanying boat, but even so, I would think that with four people, if the wind/waves get up, you have more chance of being swamped with the weight of four people on board and you can't jettison them to save weight...well the Tornado pilot, maybe.

That 19ft boat makes those waves look so small.

Did they book the photo shoot day a month in advance or did they wait for a nice sunny calm day /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I can see the liferaft may be useful, but why the spare fuel, guernsey is 72 miles from Poole, and my range is 180 miles, which is surely plenty spare fuel. Also will the weight of two extra people be that significant in a 1500kg boat.

Huh! I imagined it was further. Just makes you wonder how we Northern types manage to do anything! You lot are almost French down there.

So, what is the range and fuel capacity of your gas guzzler and how does that work out when you factor in a 30% safety margin.

Was thinking you could put a liferaft in the capacious bow section, but that would make you heavier in the bow if you broke down or had to decrease speed.
