The south cost finally served up a splendid weekend and we got a chance for a run out to try out our polished stern gear and upgraded thrusters.

Swanwick to Yarmouth on Friday was like glass. We saw a top speed of 38.5 knts with half full tanks before I noticed the fuel gauges dropping like stones and backed off. The GPS confirmed the log, which I think means with everything clean we're getting about Princess's design speed.

Saturday was our first long run, Yarmouth to Brighton, where we played with the thrusters which Osmotech said would be balanced fore and aft. Indeed they were right, the boat moves perfectly sideways, wonderful for parallel parking when I can't remember which of my sticks Powerskipper told me to jiggle.

To top off a very pleasant weekend we had a visit from jfm and jimmy_the_builder.

Boat looks utterly fab, k.

Had a nasty shock when I saw jfm wearing what - at first glance - appears to be an alice band. He did say something about being the David Beckham of his chosen calling. But that would be taking things quite a bit too far. :)

Yes, he was wearing a hair band. It was rather fetching, he looked quite louche as he sipped his Moet. I got some inside gen once he had downed a few, apparently he's negotiating to buy Antibes from the French Government in order to set up his own version of Monaco.

It was around that point that I woke up...

Looks great Kevin - sadly I spent the weekend painting garden fences. We will be down next weekend, (the boat's being lifted the following Monday), so if you are around, hopefully we can bump into each other.

I am hoping to get down, maybe only for one day. You can help me drill holes in Premier's pontoons!

OH no no no no no

3 formites and NO wake shot!!!

Tut tut tut

Alice bands are all the rage dont you know. My daughter has 326 of them but can never find the right one!

Looked like a great trip and sure you'll have a brilliant season :)

:) Ah yes. They're part of my French wardrobe; I had arrived in Brighton straight from Antibes (via LHR and an Avis car) that morning, so forgot to take them off :) I'd been in Antibes with Volvopaul, who had been working on 4 boats, 3 of which forumites, and did a fantastic job- I should make another post about that. I was in Brighton to pick up some Raymarine gear and drop in on JTB and Kcrane.

I had a lovely afternoon, and thank you JTB and Kcrane for your hospitality. JTB showed me a prototype of a fab new trick secret gadget he is having made for the targa, and the very nice internal refit work he has done (replacing blue fabric panels with brown). And then we spotted mr+mrs kcrane's very shiny and utterly mint condition lovely v48 on the visiting pontoon so went round for a look. Volvopaul had checked it over for them pre-purchse and had been telling me in Antibes last week that he couldn't remeber ever inspecting a boat in such good condition, and I saw what he meant when I got to the boat. It was a very shiny machine and Les Cranes were clearly delighted with it having just done their first trip. We had some excellent champagne to celebrate all this.
