I needed to lower my tabs today for antifouling (not on the actual tabs - given that one up!) and noticed that my port tab indicator didn't register the tab lowering. The actual tab lowers and raises ok. Unfortunately I don't know the make of the tabs but wondered if anybody knew which part of the mechanism generally sends the tab position to the indicator?

The 'sender' is inside the trim tab up/down mechanism. Some years back I had mine apart only to find out that it was the wiring. It's a sealed unit so totally buggered it and had to buy a new one.
Hopefully yours is just the external wiring. My wires went black and brittle??
It could of course be the instrument in which case swop the wires around and see if the problem swaps with it...try this first.
best of luck

If they are Bennet Trim Tabs, the indicators (called Trimdicators) are very prone to failure. Either they die totally, freeze, or blink rapidly. Simply moving the connenting strip wire will prove the point. I have had three replaced in 2 years...a pain.
