Trim Switch Given Up, Help Required

Potentiometer?
I had similar problems and this is what it proved to be. They are also known for failing.
The switch should be easy to test by bypassing the wires at the rear.

Right oh, will do. It's about time i learnt how to use one in anger !

As an aside, is this type of switch mechanism know for failing ?

I have had to replace both of mine due to failure. The bit you push had split on mine, allowing moisture in. This meant that the contacts corroded.

Yours looks ok, but if there is any cracking in the bit with the arrow on, I would replace it.

Have a look to see if you have relays near the gauge, on mine I have 2 relays per gauge just behind them, just follow the wire from the gauge.
When these failed I had similar problems.

Also is the gauge reading correctly, if any of the contacts corrode, the gauge will read incorrectly and legs may not move.

If you press the Beach/Trailer button and up, does the leg move?

Now sorted, thanks to everyone for your input.

To be honest I called in the cavalry in the end as was running out of time (wanted fixed before relaunched this Fri) and they diagnosed to a relay behind the dash, so James, looks like you called it right.

All suggestions were plausible though and I've learnt a great deal about another aspect of the boat - it's just one big learning curve !

Thanks again to everyone and hopefully one day i'll have enought knowledge to be able to help someone in return.
