I have a Alpha 1 Gen 2 with a mercruiser 3 ltr in a Fletcher 19 GTS. On sunday when I went out the trim gauge kept jumping all over the place. Generally when I touched the switch it jumped to full and stayed there but then settled to the correct position. Any ideas what could be causing this. My boat is in the water on a swinging mooring

Thanks

Dennis

Trim senders on Mercruisers don't last very long, I have changed dozens over the years. Mine jumps around too but I know when the boats is trimmed correctly by how it drives so won' t change it until the next bellows change.

I just looked up how to replace the trim sender and trim limit switch and it looks like a major job. Having to remove a lot of the stern drive. Just to get the wires through the tramsom. Mind you this guy seems to have got a good idea of how to do it without removal of the stern drive.

I think I will just do without it for a while

I never remove the drive, you just need a very long 1/4" extension and a flexible coupling with a 7/16" socket and some patience!
