Originally an Angus Primrose design and built in various forms by Trident Marine in Portchester. Good reputation as a bluewater boat, bbut can be variable as many were home finished.

Had a look at one before I bought my Moody 38, but concluded it was a bit of a "beast". Probably good value if you accept their shortcomings.

Trident Voyager

I used to sail quite a lot on a Voyager 40 which I think was a 38 with bathing platform. Dealt quite a lot with Trident during the build as owner had very particular ideas. Fitted with twin engines and did away with internal steering position as high spec autopilot and electronics fitted.
A motor sailor really, you wouldn't sail to windward but freed off it went very well for such a heavy boat. Very tough build that would go anywhere - I remember picking it up in Gibraltar at midnight and heading East in big head winds and huge seas going to Ampuriabrave around Spain in a hurry. Handled it all with ease.
I never had a problem handling astern, but twin engines and bow thruster helped a bit!

Thanks for your replies chaps . As I thought a bit of a slow starter but one that would look after you in a bit of a blow .Think it may fit the bill as we are after accomadation rather than speed .

Thanks to you all

We've got one thats now kept in Greece.

Agree with most of what's been said really. Going astern (and fuel economy/comfort)improved by a decent size autoprop. Tight berthing worries by a bow thruster.

Treadmaster deck does not like the sun too much.

Given the right conditions she sails well, but rolls easily so nights at anchor or sailing in light following winds can be a pain.

Genoa sheets on ours are led to the toerail so that does not help to windward, but if I wanted to get there fast I'd fly.

PM me with any specifics and I'll help if I can.

Dear Steve, do you still have Voyager 38? Or it has been sold already? My friends bought one and very excited, but have some difficulties. Therefore may I have professional consultation about this boat?

Regards, Evgenii.
