Perhaps worth remembering that this side of the Atlantic, and particularly in most of Europe medical treatment is essentially free and can be accessed by any resident under the EHIC scheme. Repatriation is relatively rare and even when insurers claim to cover it their conditions are very restrictive. Most policies first require the use of the EHIC scheme, or with agreement alternative private facilities. Often only used in serious cases or where ongoing treatment would be better and/or cheaper if the patient was returned to their home country.

So, for the OP sailing in France is essentially no different from sailing in the UK, and therefore most people do not take out additional insurance. It may be different of course if your sailing is more ambitious or you do it for a living.

Have 3 grades of cover think sailing under ' gold'
90 max multi holiday - I had 150 day one off cover
They paid up without too much bother when we had to cancel two yrs ago
Pre existing conditions noted on policy and only over last two years for us then they dropped out as not ongoing
This coming year conditions of policy means 90 policy has to go to 'gold' cover - £99 for one - my longer trip yet to be booked- for us it's about flight cover mainly , many months in advance
