So if all goes well we are looking forward to a "89" day cruise to France next year. Thanks to Boris and Co it looks like reciprocal health care will no longer be available, so some form of travel/health insurance will likely be needed.
Any suggestions who might cover me (71) and my wife (67)?

Nationwide do 75+, so worth a try.

Plenty of companies offering cover.
Our Bank (Natwest) does a decent cover which my broker told me was as good as any.
Don't forget to mention underlying health issues
Other than that Saga seems ok but once they get you they seem to bombard you with all sorts of stuff!

When I looked into bank account included insurance, there were lots of loopholes. They were mostly geared to normal holidays with outward and return flights booked, not open ended cruising on own boat. Another snag was most were limited to 28 day trips or thereabouts. Suggest reading the small print, not the account selling points. We gave up insuring when premiums rocketed with age, used to have Long Stay policy with Insure and Go.

The elderly father of one of my friends (who does have extensive health issues) has decided to sell the house he has owned in Provence for 30 odd years. He has looked into insurance policies to compensate for the loss of reciprocal health provision. Sadly, because of his existing conditions, the the cost of health insurance for him will be prohibitive.

He is old, and from Sheffield, but before you ask, he voted remain.

Yes - all correct - we stick to trips limited to 21 days so none of the points above apply to us - but your point is well made.

You do need to be careful as some insurances assume you are on a conventional holiday . However am sure people do travel independently worldwide and have medical insurance .

So an innocent pleasure he has long enjoyed must come to an end because of the incredible stupidity of those who voted for Brexit.

Some years ago I read the small print despite that I was just renewing my holiday travel insurance. And discovered that sailing was now covered only if it was incidental to the holiday, such as in a day trip, so no use for a wholly sailing holiday. But in fact they dropped that caveat without extra payment!

The Captain and I travel, or used to travel, quite a lot and found annual policies offered good value. Also cover you for travel around Britain.
