Travel conditions in South East/East Anglia?

Not great here in Essex (Billericay)

That doesn't look very good.... :(

Last time it snowed heavily, Jan this year, I was doing that mileage daily to get to work and back (never knowing what weather would happen while I was at work, and if I could get home), and I can promise you it was a lot worse than that, and not on flat roads, there were some very steep hills, that had glazed, as well, so had to find 'interesting' daily commute routes. :)

What's it looking like this morning Burnham/Maldon way? (Our part of Herts just has a couple of inches of snow, but it is ******* cold.)

We have almost decided not to come out to the boat, but if it looks as if we might be able to get a brief sail, and won't freeze to death, then we could change our minds.

Its passable with care.
You need care, if you are considering going sailing today!

I rather suspect it may be a good idea to leave the car at the top of the access road though.......

Thanks, Roger, I think that answers my question!

Last time we went sailing in the snow (last year) it took 20 minutes to dig out the Genoa cars, and then the jib sheets were too stiff to bend around the winches.

It looked beautiful, but was a bit too cold to be worth the effort. And I think we're wimpier this year!

Wimp! :p :D

Our cruise in company has been cancelled by the organisers today for reasons obvious to readers of this thread.

A pity as it was the Tollesbury CC Kristmas Kruize and we had nearly 25 boats and 60 people going out for a fun race to Bradwell, seafood barbie on the pontoons, food drink and entertainment in the evening at the newly-re-opened Cricketers in Bradwell (with transport laid on!) and a mulled wine reception when we got "home" to Tollesbury on Sunday (assuming we would have found our way back...)

With temps <<0C, no wind, fog and sleet forecast and dodgy roads it's not going to happen now though. Sniff. :(

Tollesbury conditions Friday night

Hi - late I know but have been out and about today from Tollesbury onto A12. All roads fine - no ungritted roads, all fine between A12 and TCC Marina. Cloudy tonight and temp rising. Front due over in early hours - due to be a mixture of rain and snow - all will depend on the relative air and ground temps and if gritters are taking it easy tonight after a dreadful 3 days.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, although the event was cancelled this morning and we decided to stay on the relatively snow-free west side of the country.

I did get an email today from Julian at Tollesbury marina that they'd cleared the snow and ice and salted as much as they could and he said the roads in an out of the village were clear. However, we have a 220 mile trip each way and decided to wimp out anyway :)

Hope me boats ok...

Still no wind! It has rained overnight and is about 3 degrees so it is better but everything is a miserable damp. Snow is off the roads but the pavements are still pretty lethal.

Just back from a quick motor down the river taking the boat to be hauled out for the winter, hardly a breath of wind on the Orwell. However the Met Office have other ideas; :)
