Just a small bit of info guys , the mooring buoys in the outer harbour have gone , they will let you anchor but only for 24 hours then you must leave or go into the marina

Just over a month ago we anchored (no bouys) a couple of days each side of a visit to Favignana, but then we didnt call up and ask permission. Found the cheapest 907 Gaz so far at 15 Euros in the ferramenta up the road from Columbus who also let us come in for water free, just a tip to the marinero. The saturday market was brill

...I think your planning to winter in Ragusa...

Hi Vic, we are wintering in Licata too - in fact we are here already, arrived yesterday from Porto Palo just in front of this westerly blow thats coming through now. I'll see what I can find out about gas, what I want to do is buy a bigger (maybe 6kg) local bottle for the winter.

The marina's ok, a few teething troubles; like 2 of the power/water towers on L2 are broken so the marinero pulled out one boats plug to let us plug in - as the place gets fuller this will be a problem. Given that we pay for power/water which is controlled by loading a proximity (probably RFID) 'badge', do I lose my credit if someone unplugs me? Its well protected, a strong southerly might get some swell in but theres a dog leg of new breakwaters to try and keep it out. The spacing between pontoons is huge, even on the Rival I have no concerns about backing off the berth :) The on-site laundry opened a few days ago but seems to need a little bedding in.

We're going back to the UK on the 15th Oct till early Jan, then stay with the boat till we leave. Hope to catch up before we go.

Hi
What we use to do is go by car to Ragusa that's the town not the villages and just before you get there on the right there the gas terminal , just leave the bottles . When we was there we had a group car so we use to take everyone's bottles in one go , there was two supermarkets there was three , just one bit of advise keep well ver to the port as you enter the marina as quite a lot of yacht went aground and so I under stand there still haven't dredge it . And don't try to enter if there a easterly blow or you prob won't make . Other then that I sure you have a good time

Hope that helps

Sailaboutvic,
We are 90% certain we are going to Ragusa this year..where is the gas place?
Any other tips for Ragusa?

There's a (travel) agent next to the marina office who can arrange hire cars and will accept gaz bottles for recharging.
We spent four days there in late June, arriving in a stiff westerly which was OK, but we needed a push from the RIB to
back up to the allocated berth. The showers are a long walk but we liked the place. One of the reception staff is a bit
shouty and short tempered, esp after I had the temerity to question the missing wifi!! There's a very friendly woman
with a broad Brooklyn accent in the local bakers just outside the marina. Some good restaurants too. The fresh water
bubbling up (in four places apparently) reduces hull growth.
Licata seemed pretty quiet to us, but with great showers and huge supermarket nearby. The harbour there is large enough to get
popply in a southerly, but that's also true of Cartagena where we are now. Another place where new showers are long overdue.
But we love Cartagena town, and the lack of a multihull surcharge, like Ragusa!
If you really want to save money, try Sciacca!
And Trapani was the only place we dragged all summer! Great town though, after the long walk there. Hardly recognisable
from my car trip over 20yrs ago.

Car hire thought the marina was expenses ,( this was two years ago) we had a group car which worked out very good for the 6 month we was there ,

The fresh water spring do help to keep foul off the boats but some did get fouled badly .
Sciacca and Trapani may be cheaper and if your just leaving the boat there and going home it prob ok BUT if you going to be on the boat most of the winter I would want to be where there are others to socialise with and you won't find many if any live about in tho two places .

Marina staff in Raguse we found them very help full and Vivian In the office couldn't do enough for every one who stayed there .

Marina Wifi is expenses and not that great I would go for a Tim SIM card . Italy is one of the cheaper country why it comes to Internet .

Re you need a rib to get you into the berth , in some berth you need a shoe hone too
