Transporting yacht overland from northern Italy to a channel port

I drove to and from Rome for adventure (just left as virus was taking hold) and was surprised at the cost of tolls. That was for a car. Hauling a boat would cost a fortune in lorry tolls, I would imagine. I think the tunnels were almost 10 times the cost for lorries against cars. Lovely adventure, but stayed clear of Chinese tourists.

Italian motorway toll: Monfalcone-Lisert (useful series of yards to lift boats here) to the Austrian border (140 km) costs €29,20 for a lorry with five axles.
You can play with other vehicles and routes here: Traffico Percorsi e Pedaggi

Euro 280 for a lorry one way through Mont Blanc tunnel. I found Italian tolls less than the French ones. Looking at Michelin toll calculator (accurate, I think) it was Euro 350 each way from Cherbourg to Rome for me.

I think getting it to the South of France by water is the answer, Road transport from there is a fraction of that from Italy.
I brought my boat up from Toulon by road. A lorry, which had delivered a boat from Brittany, was otherwise going home empty. Much cheaper.

The S of France route is one I hadn‘t considered but it makes sense. By sea it is not much further from Corfu than Trieste / Slovenia and could be a leisurely coast hop all the way. I would be very interested to hear of hauliers who could take a boat from there up to a Channel port. Please ask PM as suggested above.

Hi
I wonder if you have managed to get any further info ? I think I will start another thread about road transport from the south of France and see what that generates.

I have also just had a quote from a shipping company called Peters and May. They run a number of dedicated yacht transportation vessels from Northern Europe down to the Med and return. One of the ports they call in at is Preveza in the Ionian ! Not cheap but no more expensive than overland from the Northern Adriatic and you don’t need to take the mast down !

Has anybody any experience of having their boat transported overland from Northern Italy to a port on the English Channel?
My boat is currently in Corfu. I sailed her there from the UK about 12 years ago and now want her back on the south coast. Sailing her back is obviously one option but I am keen to look at an alternative. I am thinking of sailing her to a port in Northern Italy and putting her on a lorry to take her north perhaps to Holland. I am looking for advice as to the best port to have the boat picked up from in Italy and the best place to take her to on the Channel coast also any recommendations for a suitable haulier.
You can give a shout to Floro transport, they deliver Elan boats made in Slovenia all around Europe: FLORO Transport AFAIK they skip Italy: Slovenia-Austria-Germany-France is the way.
The budget for 11m will be steep though, would likely pay all the costs of sailing it up yourself twice...

Ok thanks. Currently exploring the S of France option

I doubt anybody will be following this thread anymore but we had a great trip from Corfu to S of France via Sicilly, Sardinia and Corsica. Now tucked up in Nice for the winter. Covid restrictions were not a problem and we are now closer to home. May move west to Port Napoleon next year and then overland to La Rochelle.

I'd be really interested to see an indicative cost of overland from Port Napoleon to La Rochelle if your research has established a ball park. I think you've an 11m LOA? I've no idea at all what it might be, I'm after ball-park guidance.

Me too. A friend is thinking about just this trip.
