Anyone got any company they use for moving their boat long road distances. I'm in the process of buying a 24 footer and it is a long way away. no way will I get to sail her to my home grounds this season. So I'm looking to move her by road. Any thoughts? Thanks

Need more information. with a 24ft you do not need a full size transporter. If she is a bilge keel or has a cradle you might get away with a trailer but more likely a flat bed with a Hiab which does away with the need for a crane either end. To minimize cost you need to find somebody close to either the departure point or the destination as time/mileage are a big part of overall costs. Being flexible on time also give you the possibility of a return load to share the cost. You can also try the Shipley website which is a clearing site for transport.

Ah, yes well, do you know where you are or the boat is, please?

Caus cannot assist with helpful advice or information until either of these two facts (information) known. Ta, as location is probably your biggest concern. Humm, lorry with crane on board a very good idea to consider.

I would also happily endorse Black Pig's recommendation of John Shepard. If you are not in a hurray to get the boat it is also worth making that clear to the transport company as they will often discount for a known return load in a few months time........I have done this in the past and got discounts of around 30% on a dedicated trip

Thanks everyone. Very useful. I've yet to buy the boat yet but know what I'm after and know where I hope to moor her. So once I've bought one I'll look at sorting out transportation.

Just be aware that transport is not cheap and can be out of proportion to a small lower value boat, so better to find something local that you can move by sea if possible.
