We store the inflatable in the transom locker of our SO36i. There is a plywood base which allow cockpit water etc. to drain through the locker underneath the folded/bagged dinghy - obviously home made by the previous owner. The wooden base has now "met its maker" due to constant exposure to water etc. I am looking for something plastic to use instead in order that it lasts without maintenance. I was thinking about some sort of poolside plastic matting (which should allow water to run underneath). I have not had any luck sourcing any. Dimensions are approximately 90 x 36cm. Has anyone done something similar?

Easy to work, lasts forever, available in different thicknesses, available with ready made drainage

Interesting idea. The hollow ones have the channels running the wrong way though - unless several were used sideways or attach chocks to lift of the locker floor. Even the right way round (fore and aft) they might be a little small for some of the stuff that gets washed that way (leaves etc.). But I agree thats a very cheap alternative to making another wooden one. Thanks.

If the ones with ventilation slots aren't appropriate then it would be very easy to make suitable slots or holes in plain sheets. It really is very easy to work. It also takes self tappers very well if it needs to be screwed.
