I've just changed the Borg Warner gearbox on the rebuilt Sabre 180 I'm going to put in my Christina 23. The engine came with an old 1.5:1 reduction box. I managed to get hold of a brand new 1:1 box, which is the correct ratio, to replace it. I removed the old box along with it's associated heat exchanger, so it's still full of Automatic Transmission Fluid. The fluid will have to be drained off when I remove the heat exchanger to fit it to the new box. The new box has no fluid in it yet.

Is it ok to use the fluid from the old box to fill the new one or should I get new?

Why skimp? put in new fresh oil and reap the benefit. Any good auto transmission fluid will suffice, and you cannot be so skint not to be able to afford it.

Ship and hap'th of tar spring to mind! A gallon of the stuff is only 20 quid at the motor factors, why bother with the old stuff and any crap that will be in it.

Point taken guys, I will get new. I wasn't being a meany, honest. It's just that there's nowhere open here till Tuesday, and the stuff in the old box looks nice and clean on the dipstick. What about disposal? I think I read somewhere that ATF is hazardous waste.
