translation pls re ellen: \"A donf!\"

what does this mean? B&Q "is you can do it when you B&Q it" . so i wonder what Castorama's slogan? It might be "Ow, damnit!" i suppose. or maybe "eh, pardon", not sure.....

"it's always a drama with Castorama"
"I bought some more castoff's in Castorama"
"Lost your Grandma? Try Castoramma!"

Re: translation pls re ellen: \"A donf!\"

approximate translation - 'go for it'

don't you just hate that phrase?

I think it means "this checkout is closed"

Re: translation pls re ellen: \"A donf!\"

Think it goes back to WWII when the french were friendly with the germans (apart from a very brave minority) and is a slight corruption of someone's name after a mothful of foie de gras mixed with calvados when some one had shouted "Ou desirons?"

Re: translation pls re ellen: \"A donf!\"

could it be an annogram? Or perhaps a french rugby saying, renamed for boating .......'andof?

Re: translation pls re ellen: "A donf!"

it is a sort of anagram, people living in the outskirts of main cities have developed this language called "verlan" (phonetic anagram of "l'envers", the opposite), where syllables are swapped while talking

ex "meuf" means "femme"
"teuf" means "fete"

"keuf" means police (I ll let you guess which english word it comes from)

A donf = A fond = go for it

Re: translation pls re ellen: \"A donf!\"

It's all very well being encouraged to 'Go for it',
but I much prefer the thought of 'Get someone else to go for it'
