transformer 240v-130v

If it doesn't need to be isolated you can use something called an auto transformer it's basically a single wound transformer with tappings.

thanks for link to machime mart, will be useful for something else, however thet still only do 110v not 130

Trog, trust me theres no such thing as 130V, in fact 240V is pretty rare as well, there is only 220V and 110V, 130V is the maximum that a device will accept without going bang so basicaly its designed to run on 110V as is anything made in the good old US of A. I'm an electronics engineer by trade so if goes bang blame me /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif if you can find me /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yeh was after a 130v as i am told that runs at 60hz rather than 50 hz . And if its a imported boat appliances will be set to run at 50 rather than 60. With a transformer i know you can step it down but you can not alter frequency, or am i getting this the wrong way round. Realise fridges and microwaves are sensitive and might give up the ghost, but concern was for the battery charger, would it still be ok getting 50 instead of 60. thanks

You need a step down transformer to get you from nominal 220v to nominal 110v. That bit is easy - many building sites use waterproof-housed step down transformers so they can use 110v tools outside. Scewfix or similar vendors sell them. Changing the frequency - the 50 versus 60 bit - is more expensive and probably not worth the expense if you only want to use your battery charger; it doesn't care about frequency.
