Evening all,

Another question re Chartplotter / transducer compatibility if I may;

I have an Airmar P79 fitted with this connector.

Am I correct that that this will not be compatible with the Garmin GPSMap 750S that I wish to use?

If not suitable, can I buy another P79 that is compatible with the GPS750S and that fits into the existing in hull fitting ?

Modern Garmins are 8 pin connections to the transducer to cater for forward transducer sonar capability. If you only need depth from your sounder then you can buy a 8 pin to 4 pin converter. This is what I did recently when fitting the Garmin GPS 900 series. The converter is an ugly box with a connector strip inside and needs somewhere to be fitted close to the Garmin. Works fine though with the old P79. I originally bought the 8 pin P79 but when I realised only the pin out was different I sent it back and ordered the converter instead at substantial cost saving. As I recall the simple cable converter wont work as it has the wrong plug (male or female) you need the box as per: Adapter (8-pin Female to Wire Block) | Garmin.

Thanks for reply. So do you think that would work for me ?51BE07CF-D235-4E1C-9459-D425319F38D5.jpeg

You cut off the existing P79 plug and connect the wires inside the converter box as per the provided wiring instructions. The plug fits into the existing Garmin 8 pin connector. This is from 1 year old memory. Contact the suppliers and discuss further if you have any concerns.
