Has anyone used this? Having downloaded a trial chart on iPad it looks rather good to me, has some useful coverage areas and low prices when compared with Navionics and Jeppesen.

Thanks

Yes I use it all the time with the chart for the East coast of Australia, so can't comment on the UK charts.
I have my iPad in a waterproof case mounted under the sprayhood so I can see it from the helm. You have to have the brightness turned up so uses the battery quite fast - I modified the case to take the charging plug and have connected to 12v all the time.

I use it.

I prefer the way the charts look compared with Navionics. Sometimes the quilting is not too good when zoomed out - one area has detail while another doesn't. Not so good if you're passage planning. Using as a plotter, close in, the charts are fine.

Pity it doesn't have the tidal streams that Navionics has.

If 2 areas overlap on iSailor & Navionics I tend to use iSailor as the plotter and flip to Navionics for the tidal streams.

Not used iSailor but have used the professional Transas NaviSailor/NaviRadar and personally I think they're great. Very versatile programs once you get used to them.

I use iSailor on IPad/iPhone and Navigator on laptop. I agree it's a shame about tidal streams, although there are plenty of cheap tidal stream atlases. Navigator does of course have stream predictions.

It's really handy to have the same kind of charts on completely independent systems. I also have OpenCPN but SWMBO prefers Navigator, more because that's what she is used to and can find her way around it.

The link above will take you to a slide show of iSailor being used for passage planning.

I have just finished an iBook on the app as used for tide streams compensation on the iPad and can vouch for the effectiveness of iSailor for all aspects of route planning. The apps responsiveness, stability and really well thought through user interface make it rank the best between the top two iPad apps available, in my opinion. Charts are Admiralty vector and very pretty, informative and clear. The navigating tools are also very accurate and versatile. I particularly like the cursor and circle distance and bearing measuring device. No other app provides a ranging ruler which can measure equidistantly three points simultaneously. A very useful feature indeed for stream compensation.
