Tranquil Bay Lefkes
My rant for the week .
The first time I come here was over 15 years ago and the place lived up to it name , now the last thing Tranquil bay is it Tranquil , the place is now littered by abandon boats some already sunken and other are not that far off , the smell of the place has I arrived the other day was just disgusting , the once clear water is now a dirty brown film where some of us live aboard or should I say the summer live aboard who arrive here in early spring and other them move their boat on and off the nelson pontoon , pump there holding tanks out ,instead of moving out to open waters , there are Brits Swedes Germanys as well as many other , that every time we come here there boats are anchored in the same place , ( off course you have the right to anchor here until you flight is ready to take off again in Oct ) if you are reading this guys and I hope you are , please please help to keep this place tidy STOP dumping your tanks ,while your sitting about doing nothing help to clean up the place the field on the south side was once wild with grass and brushers now there deflated inflatable old life rings rubbish bags and god know what . in case you don't know there two great big skips on the shore waiting for you ****.
Just suggestion to the owners of the boats that been left on the banks here , instead of going home and leaving them until they find they way to the bottom , why don’t you put them on eBay or give them away to others who would love to sails this beauty part of the Med and give someone else a chance to enjoy them rather then going home and forgetting about them , it seen to me that just because you have had enough of the Med you think you have the right to abounding your boat here an easy way out for you at no cost to you but a big cost to the environment and the rest of us , a shame on you all .

Rant over safe sailing guys

That is an amazing photograph! Even if that boat killed the throttle the moment after the pic was taken, he would end up on Nidri quay.

BTW, that Green & white yacht (Summat of Howth) has been anchored there for a very long time.

He was travelling south into Vliho bay, weaving through the few gaps between anchored boats. I was motoring out. He was heading straight towards me, then suddenly decided to swerve left just after I'd altered right. Photo was taken looking NE - you can see the Palairos range in the distance. He swamped an overloaded inflatable tender, and one (of four) occupants fell out. They couldn't recover her (big lady) so I went back and offered a lift up my bathing ladder.

Nice place, eh.

Perhaps we could start a petition to rename it? Do you think that calling it "Sainsbury's (or indeed any large supermarket's) car park on the Saturday afternoon before a major bank holiday Bay" would be better?

Then again "Stay-away Bay" has a better ring to it! :D

I do believe that Vliho will become the same. The water when we were there was also brownish and filthy. Many very scruffy boats left by the jetty. So we shall see?

We first anchored on tranquil bay but left after one night-not nice at all.

fair winds

We use the Geni side!

Wouldn't be seen dead with the dross in Vlikho, darling!

However it is at the top of Vliho or should I say Fleehole Bay or Velcro bay for all the people who dont seem to be ble to find their way out.. Good Sailing Bar but the same problem of abandoned boats and wrecks doing nothing.

Reports of Turtles in the bay at present but with all the holding tanks being dumped in there by the charter yachts on their return maybe they were Turdles.

last time i dropped anchor in tranquil bay: the bottom is really sticky mud, and the boats are pretty close together, and being tranquil, there is no wind to keep em all pointing the same way, so in 6M I put out about 15M of chain and got stuck into lunch.

English **** next to us started yelling that we were too close, he had 60M of chain out because "its more use on the sea bed than in the locker" (probably read that in PBO)
I couldnt be bothered to explain his many levels of stupidity to him, just told him he was a ****, and got on with lunch.

It wasnt too dirty 18 months ago.

In 6m putting out 15m? Didn't you have anymore?

Interesting, were you just lunching or overnight? You neighbour wouldn't know & would have to assume the worst!:(

Can't argue that chain out because "its more use on the sea bed than in the locker". (Probably read that in PBO) - certainly true!

Nothing like a bit of abuse to help the situation on.

What did your neighbour do?

Given the situation - I move to a nicer environment, hopefully with other seawomen (or men)!::o

Then look on & look forward to watching you drag!:D:D

By the way - what is your boat & flag!

An owner of an establishment on the east side of Vliho Bay told me that only 3 establishments (on the east side) have septic tanks that are emptied regularly. I wonder what the others do with their sewage. One thing is certain I would not swim in there.

Some years ago when we were anchored opposite the bar on the east side of Vliho Bay an elderly man on the Italian-flagged ketch just ahead of us climbed down the swim ladder to just above the water, dropped his shorts and defecated into the water. We shouted at him but he pretended not to hear. I so wish I'd had a gun....

returning from the airport early one morning (about 4ish) the overwhelming smell around Vliho was of black water - from boats and from the shore - I certainly would never swim in there.
