Anyone know where to get some in Essex (or cheap mailorder)- does not have to be a sailmaker - does not even have to be the proper mesh material - for a very cheap dinghy cat -prototype build - totally DIY built - safe, but not pretty (yet)(Valiant sails have none)
Thanks for any replies.

On my Iroquois I used normal webbing tape (about 2 inch wide) woven with 2 inch gaps. I had it riveted at every intersection to prevent it moving around too much. It could be a relatively simple DIY task for a dinghy.

Alahol's idea sounds good except I would just use sewing machine or hand stitching at each cross over point to stop movement. However around here most small cats use sail cloth for the tramp. You can use eyelets at suitable spacing but this is not always so strong. Consider making a hem around the edge of a tramp smaller than the area to be filled. You can sew quite heavy cloth hem if it is only 2 layers thick with domestic sewing machine. Use heavy thread and double stitch. Fit a small diameter wooden dowel in the hem. Use a hot soldering iron to melt holes (this is an excellent way to seal and strenthen the cloth around the hole)at suitable spacing large enough to thread through a lacing rope such that the lacing rope actually pulls on the dowel. you could use small Aluminium tubing or stainless steel rod. without the rod the pressure on individula holes can rip the cloth. After some years of UV exposure the sail cloth will deteriate however so cover it when stored. regards olewill

For a dinghy cat the trampoline needs to be strong enough to take the crew's weight, comfortable to sit on, stop water coming up and soaking the crew and allow pools of water to seep away.

I wouldn't advise the plasticised mesh that sailmakers offer for big cats as it lets water through though scores well on the other 3 counts. How about acrylic canvas?
