I have the good fortune to be moored in Fowey on a still clear night, trying to enjoy the tranquility over a night-cap in the cockpit. However......
On buoys about a quarter of a mile away lies T.S. Royalist. Now usually, it’s a pleasure to see her but not so tonight as she’s doing a fair impression of a cruise ship with a film being projected onto her main course (sail). The soundtrack, apart from the town clock chiming, is the only sound to be heard on an otherwise silent night. I can still hear it now at the chart table with hatches closed.
We had a lovely light airs sail up the coast today and arrived here before 1500 having observed porpoise, dolphins and a Minke whale en-route. The same ship motored past us en-route and arrived even earlier with plenty of tide and daylight left - maybe in a hurry to settle down for their evening’s viewing?
In an effort to ask them to turn the volume down I’ve tried VHF by voice and DSC without response.
Sail training Jim? Not as I know it.
