Hi,
I'm new to this forum and interested in learning more about getting involved in motor boating in coastal waters. Does anyone have any advice as to which RYA training courses would be beneficial to do? I've looked at Level 1 & 2 Powerboat, but these seem to be more focused at RHIBs. Any advice gratefully received.

Thank you

There are a few who do training on ‘proper’ powerboats, for example: RYA Motorboat Training Courses | SBT
There are others who will do training on your own boat.

Great place to start is a 2 day helmsman’s course, or if you got a little experience you could do Day Skipper Motor.

Either way you’ll learn loads and have a good time. 👍

PB 1 and 2 are for RIB drivers. Some say a good starting place, in that you you can't really damage the boat, before moving onto Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Power.

If you are anywhere near Plymouth I'd give SeaRegs a call and discuss your training needs with them. Disclosure: I am a happy customer of theirs.

Most RIBS outboard powered and hence you are steering the engine. Very different from a inboard engined powerboat with rudder.

Hi Sandy,
Thank you for the advice. I'm in north Devon so will give them a call next week.
