Hands up those who remember reading tales of giant squid that could grasp ocean liners in their tentacles, and drag them down (complete with bossa-novaing passengers in tuxes and party frocks) to the locker of D. Jones, esq.

As Spittlebatt is currently having yet another best anchor discussion, wouldn't it be a super whizz to carry a trained giant squid with you, lowering it to the seabed whenever you wanted to park for a quick bite. Whilst there, it could feast on passing crustacea, while continuing to hold your noble vessel firmly in place with a lightly suckered tentacle.

When the Fray Bentos was all gone, and you wanted to resume your journey, a coded knock on the hull would signal the squid to haul itself back on deck and hoist the mainsail in passing, before sloping off to resume its normal position on the windward rail.

I feel this is a significant commercial opportunity. Where can I obtain a reliable supply of giant squid and Barbara Woodhouse?

You could then use one of the tentacles in a nice calamari salad.
Don't squid regrow lost tentacles? If not a minor genetic modification could surely be arranged.

Frayed I could only offer you six quid for an eight-legger on doctor's papers.

Pity that ... pair exchange is so rubbery

you will need one of these rather than a woodhouse to train your squid (when you get it)

Before you patent this idea, have you considered the extra duties that could be carried out.

Have you noticed how, when going about, (or indeed carrying out any deck work) people tend to want to keep hold of every bit of rope available. Sometimes it can be like watching Mr Bean!

Anyway, for the squid....no problem ....tentacles to spare!

Ready about, lee ho, make a brew, swab the decks all in one go.

Imagine the potential for MoB....point, hit the DSC, chuck over the horseshoe etc, heave to, start the engine and bring the Mob back on board...while your still enjoying your brew after the tack!

Your on to something here TK.

Just remember who your pals are when yer rich'n'famous.

Magic

Need to be careful about it having a balanced diet:

Could be an excellent self attatching bow fender for coming into a finger berth too fast.Im surprised they are not more widely used possibly the training and vets bills make it uneconomical.

Re: Cheap squid

The possiblities are endless!! or legless!! Going giant squid hunting straight away!!

Now where's that old handrail netting??? and the baseball bat pacifier??
