Tnx, recovering with the tractor from the yard.
Significant X wind and tide today recovering the 3.5m RIB
I bottled out of the approach and put it in reverse just as it touched the trailer
Slew sideways
Trailer guy put his shoulder into one side and asked me to power forward turning towards him, worked a treat and straightened the RIB out
Will growing bigger stones ....
But, now thinking with a bigger boat and posts I can still do the same, up to a point.
Would the trailer slide eventually - which might help, or do the posts bend / break ??
Don't get put off by an early days experience, especially in a small rib, they are very susceptible to cross-winds and tidal flows being so light.
You have the right idea, and old mate gave you good advice to bring the helm over and continue up the trailer, exactly the same thing with a larger rig, once the forward, lower keel section has been "caught" by the trailer, which ever option you choose to use, vertical guides or multi-roller, or both.
After a couple of successful practice sessions or calculating the wind and tidal effect in relation to the stationary trailer, gently nudge the bow up to it until it grips centrally, power forward adjusting the helm to keep the boat straight as far as you are willing to go.
