Trailer weight?

Unfortunately, I have to sell my awesome GTV V6 3.0. I just cannot justify keeping/maintaining 3 cars. May keep the spider though. The GTV doesn't get driven much these days, so MOT next month and then into classifieds she goes. Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions, but then having a sports car, 4x4 and a boat, can be a happy combination.
I mean could you justify putting a tow bar on this? furthest one is the GTV, nearest is my spider.

I've got an SBS 1500BK, the 1500 tag refers to the safe load on the axle and I allowed 300kg for the trailer self weight leaving 1.2T for the boat. Incidentally, I'm now looking to sell it.

[QUOTE=Floyd Raser;

I've just found a trailer which appears to meet my needs - £1200. It looks donkey's years old by the state of the ancient hitch/brake set up and rusty wheels with hub caps! If it needs new suspension units that could go up to around £2K.

I'm sure you're aware that the hollow sections of old trailers tend to fail from the inside: tapping it all over with a toffee hammer can reveal nasty things hidden behind the nice paint!

My 1984 trailer is a bit like Grandfather's axe or Trigger's broom: the drawbar and plate are the only original bits now.

Yeah, but you'll still be one Busso down, which isn't good... Don't you have any children you could sell?

Beware the actual weight of your boat if you don't have a true figure.
In 2002 I bought a Newbridge Venturer, 22ft, which was sitting on what looked like a decent trailer. Newbridge's displacement weight was 1275kgs, the trailer was plated to weigh around 450kgs, so I had the decision to make whether my husband's Volvo 850 T5 could safely tow it, or whether to sell my immaculate Volvo 480 and get a 4x4.

The Volvo could legally tow 1600kgs so I decided it was too close for comfort and I said goodbye to my little car and exchanged for a Pajero 2.8, a great car which is still going strong at 20 years old.

First opportunity I had I visited the weighbridge. All up weight of boat and trailer was 2160kgs ! Add the outboard and stuff, znd you can probably put on another 100kgs.

We have just changed boat, well I actually have two as the Newbridge is up for sale, on her trailer, with upgraded axles, 2x 1300kgs, upgraded hitch, upgraded wheels, tyres, waterproof bearings and replaced braking system... this trailer was made specifically for the boat by Hayling trailers, and was clearly not up to the job. I got it registered after an inspection in France, but had to have the paperwork to show that all the components were fit for purpose.

My new boat, an elderly Leisure 23SL is on a brand new French trailer, plated for 3000kgs, the trailer cost a fair bit more than the boat.... It could have been plated for 3300kgs, but this was probably overkill and would greatly limit who could buy the boat if I sell it as fewer cars are capable of legally towing over 3 tons than up to 3 tons. No, I have not as yet weighed the boat, but I reckon with the outboard it is probably about 2350kgs max, with fuel and water tanks empty and only basic stuff on board. If you have an inboard, that is going to increase the weight consideranly. The trailer weighs 600kgs. I am hoping the boat will be less, but remember the stated displacement from the manufacturers is 1841kgs, a long way short of what you would need to calculate for a trailer.

As to tow vehicle, well, my Pajero is rated at 2800kgs in UK, but here in France it's OK to 3000kgs. My newer Shogun can tow 3300kgs, and made light work of the 1000 mile trip we just made from UK to France with the Leisure on the trailer. That said, I kept the speed below 60 mph all the way... it's a big rig and could easily get out of hand on descents.

Good luck, hope you find your trailer, but don't cut the capacity too fine.

Looks from their site that the trailer weighs 220 Kgs (which seems very light)

For some reason when I edit a post on my tablet the post often gets deleted, don't know whether it is me or not.
This happens to me all the time and is very annoying. Judging by the number of 'Deleted by xxxx' that occur, we're not alone. Some other features on the mobile version also seem to have problems and need rectifying by PBO who must be aware of them.

Decided to check my boat and trailer on a weighbridge on the way home today. 2380 Kgs so it has put on a bit of weight. I replaced the the headlining last year and the foam backed rolls were undoubtably heavied than what came out. Axles are rated at 1300Kgs each, hitch is a Bradley Hu12 which I think is rated at about 3000Kgs.

Had to sale my TT, brought a Nissan X Trail T Spec, to tow with, this 4x4 is switchable four wheel drive, 2 ltr went to Durum from Kent to drive it back, had it nearly a year now, on 55 plate, Best car I have ever brought, always had company cars until retirement. When I brought the TT, had that four years 225hp, Anyway it pulls my double axle trailer with my Pandora 700 no trouble at all loaded.
