hi, just considering my options..

anyone know of trade suppliers for small trailer parts?

what i'm after is suspension, fittings, hitches and hardware... all cheap (naturally) i need another trailer, needs to be multi purpose.. and fold away, to take small boats and able to take 8 x 4 sheets of ply etc. and fold away so as to be store in a large matchbox!!

not much to ask but..... anyone??

cheers, steve.

Indespension are quite expensive compared to Towsure (last time I looked anyway) but their stuff is good quality.

...and if you want REALLY cheap and don't mind getting grubby, look for a caravan breaker - I think there used to be one round Liverpool, try an internet search.

If you are building a trailer to last, then indispension are not cheap but far superior to Towsure products. Towsure are cheap for one reason only, their stuff is CRAP.

Over the past thirty years have built a number of trailers from small baggage trailers to 1 tonne boat trailers. Initially used Indispension (their book of plans was invaluable) but for the last fifteen years or so have used Towsure for both towbars and trailer parts mainly because of their price. I have never had any problems with either Indispension or Towsure components and I find it difficult to understand how anyone can describe the latter as "crap".

Well I agree I probably sounded a little over the top with my choice of words. The reason is that on our coastline ther are over 300 small cuddy type fishing?sports boats belonging to three main clubs, all are launched by tractor or 4 wheel drive directly from the beach. As you can imagine this causes untold problems with trailers Usualy the rollers and support rollers are the first to break, now if you compare a roller bracket from towsure to one from indespension you will see for yourself that the indespension bracket is thicker metal and far more able to withstand abuse as described. Put simply the towsure brackets collapse after hard use and the rollers do not turn. If you do not agree then simply compare them side by side and you will be surprised at the difference. I think this is one case of you DO get what you pay for. AS for their other products they may be ok, Their towbars are good value for money IMHO you pays yor money and takes your chance /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I bought a pair of suspension units from Towsure about 7 or 8 years ago. I already had a couple of Indespension ones on the trailer to compare them with but didn't fancy paying out for another two genuine Indespension ones. The main difference was that the Indespension units had a nylon bearing in each end and the rubber elements in between. I couldn't see a bearing on the Towsure ones - they just seemed to rely on the rubber and a steel endcap with a hole in it welded on to the outboard end of the square tube. Both units were on one twin-axled trailer so I had a good chance to compare them. Within a few weeks, the wheels on the Towsure ones had develped visible negative camber and I could see faint "witness" lines where the moving part of the axle was rubbing against the steel end plate. The Indespension ones were fine. When making a tight turn, the tyres on the Towsure units would visibly displace the axle in its housing and then "jump" sideways across the tarmac whereas the Indespension units remianed much better located. In fairness to Towsure, their units didn't actually fail and they were a LOT cheaper than the Indespension ones but the difference in quality was very obvious.
